Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Osamu Inoue) has developed SUMIBORONTM Binderless Endmills for precision mold finishing and will launch for sales on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The needs in mold machining are becoming increasingly diverse year by year. In addition to reducing polishing time in finishing processes to lower costs, longer tool life is also required to support automated and labor-saving production lines.
To meet these needs, Sumitomo Electric has developed endmills using its binderless CBN sintered material, where CBN grains are directly and firmly bonded together without using any binder through the company's proprietary manufacturing process.
Sumitomo Electric will continue to pursue technological innovation and provide machining solutions that meet increasingly advanced needs for higher precision and greater efficiency.
Ballnose Endmill
1.Features
(1) Excellent machined surface quality
The development of a new grade for precision machining using ultra-ultra-fine CBN grains (grain size: several tens of nanometers), in contrast to conventional SUMIBORONTM Binderless grades (grain size: several hundred nanometers). Combined with extremely sharp and high-precision cutting edges achieved through Sumitomo Electric's proprietary production technology, to deliver high-quality mirror-like surface finish that contributes to shorter manufacturing time and reduced polishing time.
(2) Achieving long tool life
The high-hardness binderless CBN minimizes dimensional change even during prolong machining, resulting in longer tool life. This reduces tool-change frequency and setup time, enabling automation and labor savings.
2.Lineup
