Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has expanded the insert grades for the high-efficiency, high-feed roughing cutter SEC-Sumi Dual Mill™ DMSW series; as well as the development and launch of the new L type low cutting force chipbreaker for sale as of February 2023.

In recent years, demand for tools specialized for high-efficiency machining has been rising in fields like automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, industrial machines, mold making, and so on.

In response to these needs, the SEC-Sumi Dual Mill™ DMSW Type was offered for sale in June 2021. We have now expanded four new insert grades for stainless steel and exotic alloy machining, as well as the development of the new low cutting force L type chipbreaker. With these new line-ups, the application area for the SEC-Sumi Dual Mill™ DMSW series will be further expanded.

1. Features

Low cutting force L type chipbreaker has a 2 stage rake shape with excellent sharpness and strength resulting in lower cutting force and contributing to stable machining. Furthermore, in combination with the newly developed insert grades XCU2500/XCS2000/ACS2500/ACS3000, longer and more stable tool life can be realised for work materials such as stainless steel, titanium alloys, and heat-resistant alloys.

  • XCU2500
    The use of Absotech™ X coating enables high strength and a balance of outstanding wear resistance with excellent fracture resistance. Achieving long tool life across a wide range of applications, from steel to cast iron and stainless steel, regardless of cutting speed.
  • XCS2000
    The use of Absotech™ X coating on a tough carbide substrate achieves outstandingly long tool life in the machining of stainless steel and heat-resistant alloys.
  • ACS2500
    The grade for high-efficiency machining, balancing wear resistance and fracture resistance. Superb performance in machining of titanium alloys.
  • ACS3000
    Toughness-focused grade achieves absolute stability in interrupted cutting. Superb stability in machining of stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys and titanium alloys.
