Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has developed and launched a high-efficiency high-feed roughing cutter SEC-Sumi Dual Mill DMSW Type for sale as of the end of June 2021.

In recent years, improved machine tool performance has led to demands for higher efficiency, including increased demand for tools specialised for high-efficiency machining.

In response to these needs, our company has developed the SEC-Sumi Dual Mill DMSW Type. With a complex arc cutting edge shape using multiple overlapping arcs, made possible by advanced insert molding technology, higher-efficiency machining is enabled. Ramping and helical milling are also applicable, supporting various types of machining in fields including automobiles, aerospace, shipbuilding, industrial machinery, and molds.

1. Features

Supports high-efficiency machining with ultra-high-feed and large depths of cut
The complex arc-shaped cutting edge creates optimal cutting angles according to the axial depths of cut, such as maximum 3.5mm/t ultra-high-feed machining in small depths of cut applications, and large depths of cut machining in low-feed applications of maximum 3mm/t.

Stable long tool overhang machining
Small cutting angle controls cutting force toward the back force direction. This enables stable machining without chatter even with long tool overhang.

Realises excellent surface finish even in ultra-high-feed machining
The wiper effect created by the complex arc-shaped cutting edge suppresses severe deterioration of the machined surface finish, even during ultra-high-feed machining.
