Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has developed and launched the MULTIDRILL MDC series, specialised for center hole drilling and chamfering, for sale as of October 2025.
Mainly in autolathe machining, the accuracy of the center hole, which is a preliminary process, has a significant impact on the accuracy of subsequent drilling operations. In particular, there is an increased demand for tools that can achieve high-precision centre hole drilling to suppress hole bending when using low-rigidity small-diameter drills.
In response to these needs, our company has developed the MULTIDRILL MDC series. Its excellent centering accuracy enables high-precision center hole drilling, contributing to improved quality of drilling.
Furthermore, this product also supports finishing processes after drilling, as well as chamfering the hole entrance required for threading. Suppressing burrs with a sharp cutting edge design, it contributes to stable downstream processes and improved quality.

1. Features
(a) Excellent centering accuracy and low resistance
Low resistance, high-grip web thinning to achieve high-precision center hole drilling. This prevents hole bending during subsequent drilling processes.
(b) Sharp cutting edge
Utilises a sharp cutting edge design to reduce burrs during center hole drilling and chamfering of the hole entrance. In addition, it also supports milling operations such as groove milling, corner chamfering and contour milling*.
