Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has expanded and launched for sale as of August 2022, a new insert grade for the high-efficiency, high-rigidity radius cutter "SEC-Wave Radius Mill™ RSE Type"

The turbine blades in aircraft and electrical generators use stainless steel as well as exotic alloys such as nickel-based heat-resistant alloys and titanium alloys. In machining turbine blades, the volume to be machined is large and from the perspective of machining efficiency, there is an increasing need for higher cutting speeds and feedrates.

In response to these needs, our company has launched the "SEC-Wave Radius Mill™ RSE Type" for sale since November 2021, and we have now expanded the line up to include "XCS2000", a newly developed insert grade suitable for exotic alloy machining. This new coated carbide grade "XCS2000" applies the newly developed "ABSOTECH™ X" coating, which combines high wear resistance and excellent fracture resistance, to realize overwhelmingly long tool life while contributing to reduced tool costs.

1. Features

Excellent wear and fracture resistance
XCS2000 utilises "ABSOTECH™ X", a newly developed coating based on our proprietary technology, coupled with a tough carbide substrate. "ABSOTECH™ X", using a proprietary structural control technology, consists of alternately stacked layers of nanometre-thick AlTiN with different aluminum contents that exhibits high hardness and outstanding wear resistance despite having a high aluminum content of over 80%. In addition, by applying our proprietary surface treatment technology, high compressive stress is introduced into the coating layer to achieve excellent chipping resistance.

2. Lineup

Inserts (Total of 6 Cat. Nos.)

3. Sales Plan

100 million JPY/year in the first year, 200 million JPY/year after 2 years

4. Price

Insert: 1,220 to 2,280 JPY (excluding tax)
