Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has launched the WR Insert, for use on the SMART TOOL*1 FlashSet MillTM manufactured by Makino Milling Machine Co., Ltd. (hereafter Makino), as of July 2025.
In recent years, management standards for machined surface quality for the machining of automotive and other machine parts have become stricter, increasing the demand for cutting tools capable of achieving a high-quality finish.
The FlashSet MillTM offered by Makino, is an adjustment-type milling cutter dedicated for finishing that enables precise cutting edge height adjustments, with approximately 80% less set-up time than conventional cutters. Enabling the use of multi-edged tools with a uniform cutting edge height, for high-quality machined finish at high feed rates. In addition, by using our company's WR Insert with a composite radius cutting edge*2, even higher-precision finishing becomes possible.
This product was achieved through melding the technological capabilities of Makino and our company. Going forward, we will continue to leverage the strengths of both companies to flexibly respond to our customers' diversifying needs.
