Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Osamu Inoue) has expanded the grade lineup of its BXBR-type solid carbide bars, to deliver stable machining and long tool life through the application of PVD coating technology, and will launch for sales in May 2026.
Sumitomo Electric's BXBR-type solid carbide bars have contributed to our customers' cost reduction and productivity improvement through its economical 2-corner design which allows both ends of the bar to use as cutting edges, its versatility that allows tool overhang amount to be set as needed, and the ability to provide high-quality machined surface finish.
In the automotive, IT or semiconductor, and medical sectors, the use of stainless steel components with excellent durability and heat resistance is on the rise. As a result, there is growing demand for low-cost, high-quality machining of hard-to-cut materials such as the highly corrosion-resistant SUS316L. To address these challenges, Sumitomo Electric is expanding the grade lineup for the BXBR series.
Sumitomo Electric will continue to pursue technological innovation and provide machining solutions that meet increasingly needs for higher precision and greater efficiency.

1.Features
(1) Application of Sumitomo Electric's proprietary PVD coating technology*
AC1135U incorporates Sumitomo Electric's proprietary PVD coating technology, Absotech™. This technology combines high strength and high hardness with excellent anti-adhesion performance, thereby delivering superior machining stability and longer tool life.
(2)Economical 2-corner design
The tool features a 2-corner design that allows both ends of the bar to be used as cutting edges, helping reduce cost per corner.
2.Lineup
Bars (Grade: AC1135U): 35 stock items
* PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition): a coating method used to form thin layers on the surface of the substrate material. A thin layer of the target material is physically deposited onto the surface of the substrate material in its gaseous phase.
