Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Osamu Inoue; hereinafter "the Company") will expand the insert grades available for the high-precision shoulder milling cutter "SEC-WaveMillTM WEZ series" to include a PCD (polycrystalline diamond) grade optimized for aluminum alloy machining, and will launch for sales in May 2026.
As aluminum alloys offer higher specific strength per unit weight than steel, their use is expanding, particularly in the aircraft and automotive industries where weight reduction is required. In machining these materials, higher efficiency and longer tool life are key challenges and in recent years, as part of efforts to reduce tooling costs, demand has also been increasing for replacing solid endmills with indexable tools.
To meet these needs, our Company has added a PCD insert grade optimized for aluminum alloy machining to the "SEC-WaveMillTM WEZ series", and will launch it for sales in May 2026. This product enables stable machining of non-ferrous metal materials and achieves longer tool life as compared to carbide grades.

1.Features
(1) Utilizing a high-strength PCD grade
By utilizing DA1000, a high-strength PCD grade made by sintering high-density ultra-fine diamond grains, for the cutting edge, it not only achieves excellent fracture resistance and wear resistance but also delivers high-precision machining and longer tool life.
(2) Excellent surface quality and high versatility
The WEZ series inserts feature an arc-shaped cutting edge geometry to achieve excellent machined surface quality and wall accuracy. In addition, the inserts can be mounted on a wide range of cutter body configurations and is compatible with small-diameter machining down to ø14 mm.
