Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has expanded the General Purpose High-precision Shoulder Milling Cutter SEC-WaveMillTM WEZ series to include a multi-function type cutter, for sale as of November 2025.

In recent years, there is a growing demand for improved machining efficiency in fields such as automotive parts and aerospace components. In particular, the time required for tool setup and tool changes during machining has become a significant factor that affects production efficiency.

To address these issues, our company has expanded our existing SEC-WaveMillTM WEZ series with the new multi-function SEC-WaveMillTM WEZM type, integrating multiple tool functions. The product utilizes the insert used for the shoulder milling cutter SEC-WaveMillTM WEZ series as the peripheral insert and the insert used for the indexable insert type drill SumiDrillTM GDX series as the central insert. This enables consecutive multiple processes, such as shoulder milling and drilling, with just 1 tool, significantly reducing changeover and machining time, thereby contributing to improved productivity at manufacturing sites.
